
The SWTX libraries have Chromebooks and Laptops available at our locations in Crystal City, Del Rio, Eagle Pass, and Uvalde.
A User Agreement must be completed each time a Chromebook is borrowed.

Chromebook/Laptop borrowers are fully responsible for any damage to, loss of, or theft of the device and/or its accessories.
Chromebook & Dell Laptop Loan Policy
Device Login Requirements
- Chromebooks require users to sign in using a personal Gmail account.
- Dell laptops require users to sign in using their official SWTX student credentials.
Users must also have access to Wi-Fi to fully utilize the device.
How Can I Check Out a Device?
Devices are available at the Library Information Desk on a first-come, first-served basis.
Devices:
- Cannot be reserved or held
- Require a current SWTX student ID
- Require a library account clear of fines or holds
- Require successful completion of the Chromebook Quiz
- Require a signed Device User Agreement for each checkout or renewal
Loan Period
Chromebooks and Dell laptops may be checked out for up to one (1) month at a time.
Renewals are permitted only if another functioning device is available for student use.
Devices will not be checked out during holiday closures.
Equipment Included
Each checkout includes:
- Chromebook or Dell laptop
- Charging cable
- Carrying case with a strap
Borrowers are responsible for inspecting all equipment at the time of checkout. Any issues must be reported within 20 minutes of checkout. Failure to report damages may result in the borrower being held responsible.
How much does it cost to borrow?
- This is a free service to Southwest Texas College students who need access to a computer.
Borrowing Rules
- Devices must be returned directly to a full-time library staff member for the official check-in process.
- NEVER leave a device unattended at the Information Desk.
- Student workers are not authorized to complete device returns.
- Library devices are intended for academic and college-related use only.
- Students may not store personal files permanently on the device.
- All devices are reset to factory settings upon return.
Borrowers are fully responsible for any loss, theft, or damage to the device and accessories during the loan period.
This includes, but is not limited to:
- Cracked screens
- Water or food damage
- Missing accessories
- Physical alterations to the device
Students may not place stickers, adhesive decorations, tape, labels, or coverings on library devices. This includes placing tape or stickers over the camera, vents, serial numbers, asset tags, or any part of the Chromebook or Dell laptop.
Tampering with or attempting to disable device cameras, tracking labels, or security features may result in the immediate suspension of borrowing privileges.
Fines & Liability
Late returns will result in the following fines:
- $15 per day for overdue devices
- $15 cleaning fee for devices returned excessively dirty
- $15 fee for missing or damaged carrying bags
- $30 fee for missing or damaged chargers
- $10 fee for missing or damaged HDMI cables
Replacement fees:
- Chromebook: $300
- Dell Laptop: $1,500
Devices more than 10 days overdue will be considered lost or stolen.
Two late returns may result in suspension of borrowing privileges for the remainder of the semester.
Unpaid fines or replacement costs may result in holds being placed on:
- Grades
- Registration
- Transcripts
- Future enrollment services
Security & Data Responsibility
The library is not responsible for:
- Lost or damaged files
- Files left on devices after return
- Data loss during the loan period
- Viruses transferred to or from personal storage devices
Students should save work to:
- Cloud storage
- External drives
- Personal email accounts
Software & Compatibility
Microsoft Office Apps
Students may install Microsoft Office web applications through the Chrome Web Store.
Honorlock Compatibility
Honorlock is compatible with Asus Chromebooks.

Chromebooks are incompatible with:

These laptops are made available to enrolled students to promote access to the library's electronic resources.
