Purpose
The Cybersecurity Specialist Associate of Applied Science and Certificate degrees are designed for students interested in entering the field of cybersecurity technologies. The degree prepares students to learn practices that are designed to protect networks, computers, programs and data from attack, damage, or unauthorized access. Cybersecurity Specialists will learn about computer security, installing security software, network monitoring for security breaches, and responding to cyber-attacks. Students will have opportunity to take CompTIA Security+, Network +, and Linux + certification exams.
Admission Requirements
Students are admitted to the Cybersecurity Specialist Program through the regular college admission procedures (see Admission Regulations section). Students will receive a Level One Certificate and/or an A.A.S. degree upon satisfactory completion of the program of study and upon making formal application for graduation (see Curricula section). The Cybersecurity Specialist Program carries three award options, a Level One Basic Certificate, Level One Advanced Certificate, and an A.A.S. degree. The Level One Certificates are TSI exempt, however, those not meeting TSI requirements are encouraged to enroll in the appropriate developmental course(s). Students who wish to pursue the A.A.S. degree must meet all Texas Success Initiative (TSI) requirements.
Texas Success Initiative (TSI) Requirements
The AIT program carries two award options, the Level 1 one-year Certificate and the two-year Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) degree. College Board policy requires all students to take the TSI Assessment examination. Students pursuing the Level 1 one-year Certificate do not have to pass the TSI Assessment; however, those not scoring at the INRW 0302 and/or MATH 0302 level are strongly encouraged to enroll in the appropriate developmental course(s).
Students who wish to pursue the two-year certificate or A.A.S. degree must meet all Texas Success Initiative (TSI) requirements.
